Sweet aroma of whiskey or bourbon barrel. Fairly smooth taste up front, followed by a warm, dark sweetness. Fades out with a hint of dark malt aftertaste and a large alcohol sweetness/warmth. This bottle is probably 3 years old as I’m drinking it in Oct 2013 and the bottle has a twist cap. Founders ended that years ago. There was residue at the bottom that I poured out in the sink at the end of the bottle. Not sure if that was a sign of the age or not.
Very nice sweet, strong hop aroma. Initial taste hits your palate like a nice strong stout with a big roasted malt flavor. Somehow in a kind of seamless transition the dark malt flavor it’s replaced by a clean hop flavor that fades out slowly. Very interesting flavor combination and trip through the taste buds.
Moderate sweet smell with a hoppy edge to it. Full flavored hoppiness with a sweet aftertaste. Then fades into a strong malt/hop flavor that fades slowly. Very nice and strong flavored.
Slightly sweet aroma with a hint of a hop bite. Taste is a fresh crispness of hops but quickly smooths and fades out gradually. Leaves with a mild hop aftertaste that’s not too harsh and not too mellow. Bottled on 10/4/12 and drank on 10/26/12, so pretty fresh from brewery to beer drinker.
Very thick, rich aroma. Flavor has a very sharp bite (90 IBU according to the bottle). Then has coffee hints which fade off to a strong hop and roast malt flavor. Kind of leaves a chocolate flavor in your mouth, but a dark chocolate flavor-not a milk chocolate.
Nice hoppy aroma, a bit sweet. Initial taste is good, easy drinking with a moderate hop taste. Aftertaste finishes with a bit of a harsh flavor. Overall pretty good but the aftertaste lets it down.
4 out of 5 Stars.
