Dry, sweet, hoppy smell. Crisp flavor with equal balance of hop and malt. Aftertaste is very clean malt taste, with lingerings of hop sweetness in the background. Without the slight sweetness, would be almost identical to the Dusseldorf alt beers.
Sweet aroma. Sharp bite combined with sweetness, which quickly fades and just leaves a kind of mouth-watering effect in your mouth. On bigger gulps, get a slight malt taste. Overall a big flavor rush that is fairly easy drinking. Got better add it warmed, killing of the overly sweet taste and just left the malt predominant. This 500ml can was from LCBO in Canada and labeling says it was actually brewed in Japan. Bought it on December 8th, date code on bottom reads “U/0126C H013”. I’m guessing that means Julian calendar date 126- or 126th day of the year.
No aroma other than maybe an old nasty beer smell. Luckily after further sniffs, the clouds parted some and there was a hint of fresh hop sweetness. Flavor is a bit edgy with some hop sweetness overlayed with some harshness. Aftertaste is a bit harsh them fades off to a moderate hoppy maltiness. Not bad, but a bit too much harshness hiding here and there to make it too enjoyable. Says it was canned on 03/08/13, which makes it only 2.5 weeks old. Nothing about it tastes fresh, though.
After letting this warm slightly from the ice cold state, flavor actually mellowed a lot and new flavors came out with a nice maltiness. Bumped it up a half rating.
Light lager-like aroma. Sweet taste that has a clean malty nutty-like flavor. Leaves little aftertaste other than that nut/malt flavor. Flavor comes out a bit more as it warms, may have started too cold. Says packaged on 12 11 13 at 10:37, but I’m drinking it on December 8th. Ymmv. Batch 3341.
Very sweet aroma, almost like bourbon. Strong sweet flavor with a high alcohol bite with some hop sweetness. Follows with a strong malt taste which fades slowly into a high alcohol sweetness.
Sweet, dark, and dry aroma. Sweet dark malt taste immediately followed by a rotated malt clean taste. Fades out fairly quickly and just gives you hints of malt to linger.
4 out of 5 Stars.
